Overview
CI Renew partnered with the Howard County Government in 2020 to complete the largest and most innovative solar PPA in the state of Maryland. By aggregating rooftop, parking canopy, and ground-mounted projects into one extensive portfolio, the County transitioned over 50% of its
energy consumption to solar and is forecasted to generate more than $60M in savings over the term of their agreement (25 years)--exceeding original savings and generation targets.
Part of the Howard County portfolio, the Howard County Courthouse project includes two separate solar arrays built on and adjacent to the courthouse. Both projects achieved commercial operations without interference to the sensitive nature of the facility's operations. An integral part of the Howard County Government‘s LEED Gold Certification for the new courthouse the solar arrays combined provide more than 40% of the building’s energy.
A mix of native pollinator species was planted throughout the ground array to promote pollinator habitat and reduce long-term vegetation management requirements.
“Our historic solar power purchasing agreement with CI Renewables puts us on track to exceed our environmental and energy independence goals."
Howard County Executive Calvin Ball
