CI Renew partnered with the Howard County Government in 2020 to complete the largest and most innovative solar PPA in the state of Maryland. By aggregating rooftop, parking canopy, and ground-mounted projects into one extensive portfolio, the County transitioned over 50% of its energy consumption to solar and is forecasted to generate more than $60M in savings over the term of their agreement (25 years)--exceeding original savings and generation targets.

Part of the Howard County portfolio, the Clear View project is a fixed ground mount on privately owned farmland. This off-site array provides energy to Howard County government buildings through Virtual Aggregate Net Metering. CI Renew entered a long-term lease with the farm's owner that will supplement existing farming operations.

Sheep grazing (Agrivoltaics) will be introduced within the solar array as newly planted vegetation is established. Agrivoltaic systems allow agricultural landowners to continue farm operations while generating long-term passive income and offer several co-benefits, including enhanced soil biodiversity and productivity and land preservation.

“Our historic solar power purchasing agreement with CI Renewables puts us on track to exceed our environmental and energy independence goals."
Howard County Executive Calvin Ball
