Overview
CI Renew partnered with CentraState Medical Center, a non-profit healthcare facility in Freehold, New Jersey, to implement three large-scale solar installations that collectively make it the hospital with the highest percentage of solar electricity in New Jersey.
The first project, a 6.32 MW fixed ground mount solar system, was completed in 2014. The ground-mounted system spans across 26.2 acres of land leased by CentraState to a subsidiary of CI Renew. When it was commissioned, the installation was the largest photovoltaic solar system supplying energy to any hospital in New Jersey and one of the largest solar distributed generation facilities for a non-utility company providing electricity to any hospital on the East Coast.
In 2019, CI Renew returned to develop a 3.94 MW dual-tilt carport system. This installation, when combined with the original ground-mount array, enabled CentraState to generate 61% of its energy consumption via on-site solar. The third project was completed in 2020 with the installation of another 1.58 MW dual-tilt carport covering the remaining viable parking areas.
Together, these solar installations have saved over $600,000 in annual energy costs and transformed the CentraState campus, providing 70% of its annual electricity load, along with new asphalt paving, curbing upgrades, new landscaping throughout the parking lots, and efficient LED lighting under all the canopies with no capital costs to CentraState.
“[CI Renew] has proven to be a valuable and innovative partner to CentraState since 2014 delivering on their promises and seamlessly integrating these systems with our operating hospital. We look forward to other opportunities to work with them."
